Astronomer, Creator & Educator

Hi! I’m Nataliea Lowson, the Annie Jump-Cannon Fellow at the University of Delaware in the United States. My research primarily focuses on observing the atmospheres of exoplanets to try and understand their composition and formation history. When I’m not trying to understand the universe, I help other people to through outreach and educational work.

About Nataliea Lowson

I’m an astronomer, science communicator, and advocate for equality and accessibility in STEM.

I graduated with a BSc Hons from the Australian National University, and received my Doctorate at the University of Southern Queensland. My thesis, entitled Characterising Exoplanets Using Ground-based & Space-based Facilities, specialised in the characterisation of both the physical and chemical properties of exoplanets using the primary transit method. I am currently undertaking my postdoctoral research as the Annie Jump-Cannon Fellow at the University of Delaware.

As an undergrad, I was employed by the Australian Astronomical Observatory, where I produced an educational astronomy YouTube series, teaching viewers about observational astronomy, instruments used on Australia’s largest optical telescope and how astronomers obtain the observations.
